What We Do

MPNZ is active across the whole milking and pumping sector. We set the standards, run the training, speak up for the industry, and connect the right people with each other.

Setting the standard

We write and maintain the New Zealand Milking Machine Testing Standards that cover the performance and testing requirements. Clear standards mean consistent work, and consistent work means better outcomes for farmers.

We work with DairyNZ, Fonterra, OEM suppliers, and government bodies to keep our standards current. When the rules change, we make sure our Members know about it and are ready for it.

Practical training

We offer training across milking systems, milk quality, mastitis, pumping systems, water quality, effluent design, and more. The courses are practical and grounded in what people actually deal with on farms and in the field.

MPNZ courses are listed on the NZQA framework, so the qualifications are recognised nationally and internationally.

Speaking up for the industry

When regulation changes, when legislation affects the way our members operate, or when the sector needs a seat at the table, MPNZ shows up. We represent our Members at a national level, help with disputes, and keep people informed about the things that affect their business.

Things like changes to the Plumbers Act, new environmental requirements, or updated dairy compliance rules. Our Members don't have to figure those out on their own.

Growing the next generation

MPNZ offers NZ's only NZQA-approved apprenticeship for milking and pumping technicians: the New Zealand Certificate in Dairy Systems (Engineering). It has strands in Milking Systems and Pumping Systems, and it's building the workforce the industry needs going forward and developing the future business owners.

Connecting the right people

Need a Registered Milking Machine Tester? Looking for a skilled pumping tradesperson in your region? The MPNZ directory of Tradespeople makes it straightforward to find the right person for the job. Everyone listed has the credentials to back up their work.
