Course Overview
Who is this course for?
Water or pumping technicians, plumbers, Council staff wanting to become registered backflow testers, and apprentices completing the Pumping strand of the Dairy Systems (Engineering) apprenticeship.
What will you learn?
You will gain both the theoretical and practical skills required to become an Independently Qualified Person (IQP) to test and inspect backflow devices. Training is a mix of classroom-based theory and hands-on practical learning using backflow testing kits, covering correct testing procedures for all types of backflow prevention devices. Successful completion of the course will allow you to apply to the relevant local authority and register as an IQP to carry out backflow work in that area.

Testing and inspection of backflow prevention devices
On Completion
Participants who successfully complete this course and the related assignments will be awarded NZQA Unit Standards 23848 (Describe suitability, installation, and testing of water supply backflow prevention devices, and fault identification) and 23847 (Prepare to test, and inspect and test, water supply backflow prevention devices). These unit standards are also pre-requisites for the Backflow Survey qualification (unit standard 2150).
