Who is this course for?
All Milking Machine Technicians are encouraged to undertake this training.
What will you learn?
Participants who successfully complete this course will have an in-depth understanding of milking machine function and will be able to troubleshoot and give recommendations on issues relating to milking machinery performance.
Participants will gain valuable knowledge and skills to tackle common and not so common faults found in the dairy shed relating to mastitis, milk quality, grades, cleaning issues, liner selection and stray voltage

Milk Quality and Grade Troubleshooting
Understanding the causes of milk quality issues and grades, and how to diagnose and resolve them
Mastitis
Identifying mastitis causes, prevention strategies, and recommendations for managing mastitis in dairy herds.
Liner Selection
Choosing the correct liner for optimum milking performance across different herd and machine combinations.
Cleaning Evaluation
Assessing the effectiveness of dairy shed cleaning systems and identifying improvement areas.
Milk Delivery
Understanding milk flow, delivery systems, and how to optimise performance.
Stray Voltage Testing
Identifying and diagnosing stray voltage issues in and around the farm dairy.
Prerequisites
It is recommended that participants have completed the MPNZ ISO Milking Machine Testing course, or are already very familiar with the function of milking machinery components. Online modules for Liner Selection and Stray Voltage Testing are required to be completed before attending the course. Access instructions for these modules will be sent prior to the course start date
Course Content
Participants will develop practical skills across six key areas of dairy shed performance. The course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on application, giving technicians the tools to diagnose and resolve the most common and complex issues affecting milking performance, milk quality, and herd health.
On Completion
Participants who successfully complete this course will receive the NZQA Farm Dairy Systems Management Micro-Credential (Level 4). Micro-credentials are small, stand-alone awards that recognise learners' skills, experience, and knowledge.
Participants who successfully complete this course and the MPNZ ISO Milking Machine Testing course will also be awarded the MPNZ Dairy Diagnostics Specialist Endorsement
