MPNZ is run by a volunteer Council of people with real experience across the dairy and pumping sectors. They set the direction for the Association and make sure it keeps delivering for Members and the wider industry.

Our Executive Officer
Maria Scott
Executive Officer | MPNZ
Maria has been Executive Officer of MPNZ since 2008 and is the first point of contact for all association queries. As the sole employee of MPNZ, she manages the full breadth of the organisation's operations: from scheduling and planning industry training through to maintaining the Register of Milking Machine Testers, managing tester expiries, and supporting members with questions on processes and legislation.
Outside of work, Maria is a passionate and well-travelled explorer. Having visited 100 countries across all seven continents, she is always planning the next adventure. Ask her for a favourite and the answer is immediate: Antarctica, without hesitation.
Meet the Council
Marty Bloy
President | Water Applications Sector
43 South Ltd, Christchurch
Marty has been in the pumping and filtration industry since 2007, after a stint in water treatment. He is based out of Christchurch and born and bred in Canterbury. With three kids (Max, Poppy and Fred) under thirteen, there is always something to do. Agriculture and most primary industries are of interest especially beef cattle and the Hereford breed. Governance is something close to his heart with stints on boards around the country, local BOT, MPNZ and 43South. Institute of Directors and Crusaders Leadership Programme form regular investments in his personal development.
He is committed to inspiring and motivating others while setting high standards for all stakeholders. The focus is on fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation to drive sustainable success.
Marty has been a MPTA Council Member since December 2023.
Darren Main
Vice President | Milk Harvesting Sector
DeLaval NZ, South Island
Darren brings 30 years of hands-on industry experience, starting out manufacturing and installing milking parlours in North Otago in the mid-90s. From there he moved through roles in rotary platform installation, effluent and pumping systems, and dealership management before joining DeLaval in 2014 as Technical Support Manager for Oceania and Southeast Asia, a role he holds today.
He's known for his commitment to the industry and a sharp eye for detail. Passionate about dairy and the technologies that drive it forward, Darren has been an MPNZ Council Member since May 2020.
Martin Doohan
Milk Harvesting Sector
MilktechNZ, Hamilton
Martin is MilktechNZ's Research and Development Manager and Technical Manager, bringing 13 years of experience in the agricultural industry across in-shed dairy automation, animal health product development, and technical support. Before joining MilktechNZ, he worked with DAL/LIC Automation developing in-shed milk sensors, and Simcro/Datamars improving animal health delivery products for the pharmaceutical sector. Today he focuses on modernising existing technologies and building the next generation of products.
Martin is a firm believer in continuous learning, having completed his Milking Machine Testing course in 2023 to better understand the full system, not just the components he works with. He has been an MPNZ Council Member since March 2025.
Craig Burrows
Milk Harvesting Sector & Water Applications sector
Dairymaster Milking Systems NZ Ltd, Stratford
Craig is Managing Director of Dairymaster Milking Systems NZ Ltd in Stratford, bringing 44 years of industry experience across the design and installation of milking, water, filtration, refrigeration, and effluent systems. He runs a contracting business of 25 staff alongside a dealer network spanning New Zealand, covering everything from milking equipment and platforms to water reticulation, treatment plants, and general engineering.
Originally trained as an Electrical Draftsman, Craig has a particular passion for cutting through the myths around stray voltage and milking machines and holding the industry to sound scientific principles. He played a significant role in writing the New Zealand adaptation of the ISO Milking Machine Test and has represented MPNZ on the National Mastitis Advisory Council for many years.
Craig has been an MPNZ Council Member since 2001 and was awarded Life Membership in 2016 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the industry.
Gary Reilly
Milk Harvesting & Water Applications Sector
On Farm Agri Centre Ltd, Nelson
Gary is Managing Director of On Farm Agri Centre Ltd in Nelson, an Engineer by trade with 42 years of industry experience including extensive international training in the milking machine sector. He leads a team of 14 and holds an Executive MBA from Massey University, completed in 2002.
Gary has made a significant mark on industry standards, contributing to the development of the Farm Dairy Effluent Design Code of Practice and Standards, and playing a major role in writing the New Zealand adaptation of the ISO Milking Machine Test.
He has been an MPNZ Council Member since 2011, serving eight of those years as Council President. Gary was awarded Life Membership in 2023 in recognition of his contribution to the industry and the association.
Gareth Cowan
Milk Harvesting Sector & Water Applications sector
Progressive Engineering, Invercargill
Gareth is General Manager of Progressive Engineering in Invercargill, bringing 20 years of experience in the water and effluent pumping industry. He has worked across the full spectrum of the sector, from selling and installing pumping equipment on the ground through to 14 years with a Southland milking machine company employing 40-plus staff.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Management from Lincoln University and has continued building his technical credentials with the Farm Dairy Effluent System Warrant of Fitness course in 2014 and Small Drinking Water Supplies unit standards in 2024.
Gareth is passionate about the water and pumping industry, particularly bringing new people into it and making sure they get the training they need. He has been an MPNZ Council Member since March 2025.
Les Sinclair
Milk Harvesting Sector
Spring Meadow Services Ltd, Timaru
Les is a Milking Machine Tester and Mastitis Consultant at Spring Meadow Services Ltd in Timaru, with 42 years in the dairy industry. He spent 12 years with Alpine Dairy Co-op, including six years as a Farm Dairy Inspector, Auditor, and Milk Quality Officer, before establishing himself as an independent tester. He has been a member of MPNZ for 29 years.
Les has a particular passion for reducing somatic cell counts and mastitis cases on farm, and worked with innovAg Australia to align the Dairytest X with NZ's ISO Milking Machine Testing reporting requirements.
He has been an MPNZ Council Member since March 2023.
Trevor Foley
Dairy Effluent Sector
Trevor Foley Consultants, Hamilton
Trevor is Principal Consultant at Trevor Foley Consultants in Hamilton, specialising in farm dairy effluent system design and environmental compliance. A former Environmental Extension Specialist at DairyNZ, he brings deep expertise in effluent storage, hydraulic design, pond and tank site investigation, and solids separation infrastructure. He works closely with farm consultants, rural professionals, milk company representatives, and regional council compliance officers across New Zealand.
Trevor holds credentials as a National Certifier for Legislated Fresh Water Farm Plans, a Certified Farm Dairy Effluent System Warrant of Fitness Assessor, and a Trade Certified Engineer. He has contributed to the development of effluent systems compliant with the NZ Dairy Effluent Code of Practice, PN21, PN27, and NZCP1.
Outside of work, Trevor is a competitive Masters-level road cyclist who has represented New Zealand internationally and won multiple national titles.
Trevor has been involved with MPNZ Council for many years, including a term as Council President. He was awarded Life Membership in 2026 and has been a Council Member since March 2018.
Zac Macfarlane
Water Applications Sector
Franklin Water, Pukekohe
Zac is Managing Director of Franklin Water in Pukekohe, bringing over 10 years of experience in the water treatment industry. He started his career founding Pure Hydration from the ground up, growing it from door-to-door filtration sales into a successful North Island operation, before purchasing Franklin Water in 2023.
Today Franklin Water supports some of New Zealand's largest manufacturing facilities alongside council infrastructure works, schools, and the food and beverage sector. Zac has built extensive expertise across water softening, UV disinfection, selective media filtration, and advanced industrial treatment solutions, and has developed a strong reputation for taking on complex, large-scale projects that other providers won't touch. His experience spans domestic, commercial, industrial, and municipal applications, giving him a well-rounded and deeply practical understanding of water treatment in New Zealand.
Down to earth and technically sharp, Zac is equally at home troubleshooting on a rural site as he is discussing capital investment and strategic planning. He brings that same commitment to quality, safety, and reliability to his role on the MPNZ Council, which he has been a member of since March 2026.
Simon Connolly
Milk Harvesting Sector
GEA Farm Technologies NZ, Hamilton
Simon is Sales Enablement and Capability Manager at GEA Farm Technologies NZ in Hamilton, with 37 years of experience in the dairy industry. His career began in the late 1980s assembling and testing milking equipment at NuPulse NZ, before he went on to manage a milking machine dealership in South Taranaki. He joined GEA Farm Technologies 29 years ago and has since held roles across sales coordination, project management, purchasing and supply chain, and now sales enablement.
In his current role, Simon supports the GEA sales team and dealer network with product and pricing support, including their integrated webshop. He brings a broad skill set and a strong technology focus to helping dealers deliver the best outcomes for farmers. Outside of work, he keeps busy on his lifestyle block near Hamilton.
Simon has been an MPNZ Council Member since March 2026.
Daniel Simmonds
Fonterra Milk Quality
Fonterra, Lower South Island
Danny is Milk Quality Manager at Fonterra across the Lower South Island, with over 20 years of experience in the dairy industry including 15 years in his current role. He works closely with farmers and industry stakeholders on milk quality performance, compliance, and continuous improvement across a wide range of farming systems, combining on-farm support with investigation of quality issues and practical guidance for farmers.
Before joining Fonterra, Danny worked in the biosecurity sector, building a strong grounding in risk management, disease prevention, and regulatory frameworks that continues to inform his approach to milk quality today.
Practical and solutions-focused, Danny values straight communication and strong relationships. He has been an MPNZ Council Member since March 2024.
